Speech Therapy
S.L. Hunter SpeechWorks provides speech and language therapy for children, young people, and adults with a range of communication challenges. Our registered Speech-Language Pathologists provide assessment and personalized care to support clearer speech, stronger communication skills, and greater confidence in daily life.
Our speech therapy services are individualized according to each person’s communication needs and goals. Depending on the results of an assessment, therapy may address speech sounds, articulation, motor planning, language skills, social communication, or other communication disorders. For children, therapy may also support speech and language development, preschool speech, language delays, and a child’s speech or language development. Adults may seek support for adult speech, cognitive communication, or communication changes associated with conditions such as traumatic brain injury.
During a first speech therapy session, a Speech-Language Pathologist can discuss concerns, complete or recommend an assessment, and determine whether targeted therapy may be appropriate. Therapy sessions and strategies are then tailored to the individual.

Articulation Therapy
Articulation therapy focuses on the accurate production of speech sounds to improve speech clarity. A Speech-Language Pathologist may assess a child’s speech patterns and develop targeted therapy activities to help practise sounds, words, and increasingly complex speaking tasks. This type of speech therapy for kids can support clearer and more confident communication.
Oral Placement Therapy
Oral Placement Therapy (OPT) uses structured techniques to target specific oral movements related to speech and, when clinically appropriate, feeding. It may be incorporated into individualized therapy programs for clients with specific speech challenges or swallowing and feeding needs.
Oral Rest Posture Program
Oral rest posture refers to the position of the tongue, lips, and jaw when a person is not speaking or eating. From a speech perspective, oral positioning can influence the movements used to produce speech sounds. Therapy may include strategies that support appropriate positioning and speech production.
PROMPT
PROMPT is a therapy approach that uses tactile and movement-based cues to support the planning and sequencing of speech. A trained speech therapist may use PROMPT as part of a personalized treatment plan when it is appropriate for the client’s communication goals.
The Kaufman Speech to Language Protocol (K-SLP)
The Kaufman Speech to Language Protocol (K-SLP) is an assessment and treatment approach used with some children experiencing childhood apraxia of speech, speech sound disorders, and expressive communication challenges. Treatment is adapted to the child’s individual communication development and therapy goals.
Speech and Language Therapy for Children and Adults
Our team provides speech therapy for kids and speech therapy for adults based on individual strengths and needs. Depending on the client, support may involve speech, language therapy, social communication, language development, or cognitive communication.
Speech-Language Pathologists may also collaborate with families, Communicative Disorders Assistants, educators, and other professionals when appropriate. This team approach can help clients practise strategies outside of therapy sessions and apply new skills at home, school, work, and in social situations.
S.L. Hunter SpeechWorks also provides services across other areas of communication, including language services, voice therapy, support for voice disorders, and swallowing difficulties. Recommendations depend on the individual’s assessment and communication needs.
