Speech-Language Pathologist Jobs
A Speech-Language Pathologist at S.L. Hunter SpeechWorks may provide assessment, therapy, consultation, education, and support based on each client’s individual needs and communication goals.
Depending on the position and caseload, responsibilities may include:
- Completing speech and language assessments
- Developing individualized treatment plans
- Providing speech and language therapy
- Supporting clients with communication disorders
- Maintaining timely and accurate documentation
- Collaborating with families and caregivers
- Communicating with other healthcare professionals
- Managing an appropriate clinical caseload
- Developing practical strategies to support communication
Our clinicians work with clients across different ages and areas of need. Services may address speech clarity, language, fluency, voice, cognitive-communication, swallowing, or other concerns within the Speech-Language Pathologist’s scope and expertise.
Working With Children and Families
Some speech therapy positions may involve working with children and adolescents experiencing speech, language, literacy, fluency, social communication, developmental disabilities, or other communication challenges.
Speech-Language Pathologists may work closely with parents and caregivers to explain assessment findings, establish communication goals, and provide strategies that can be used outside of therapy sessions.
Depending on the role, experience working with children, families, schools, special education teams, or community services may be beneficial. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with clients, caregivers, and professionals are important parts of providing high-quality care.
Adult Speech-Language Pathology Services
Our team also provides services for adults with acquired or developmental communication needs. Depending on a clinician’s expertise, an adult caseload may include clients experiencing speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, or swallowing concerns.
Therapy may involve assessment, treatment, education, strategy development, and collaboration with other professionals. The focus is on helping clients work toward communication goals that are meaningful in their home, community, social, and professional lives.
Qualifications and Clinical Skills
Applicants for Speech-Language Pathologist jobs should have the education, registration, and professional skills required to practise speech-language pathology in Ontario.
Qualifications may include:
- A graduate degree in Speech-Language Pathology
- Registration and good standing with the appropriate Ontario regulatory college
- Strong assessment and treatment skills
- Effective verbal and written communication
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to develop individualized treatment plans
- Accurate clinical documentation
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Experience working with children or adults, depending on the position
Some community-based roles may also require access to a reliable vehicle and the ability to travel between client locations.
